nunofelting handcrafted fabric in richmond hillMy designs start from creating hand crafted fabric using nunofelting technique. Nunofelting, or, simply, felting, is a very versatile technique that existed for thousands of years across the globe. It helps me to create custom fabric designs combining different natural fibers – wool, silk, cotton into unique, never repeating canvas. In its turn, it becomes a piece of clothing – a dress, a top, a vest or a jacket. It makes it a very personal and sensible experience. The pieces of clothing are created seamless, the process is very similar to sculpting.

With the thought of the future clothing pieces, and how they will be used I create the fabric using the right mix of fibers. Each piece is handcrafted with unique natural fiber combination recipe. The created fabrics breathe, keep the natural body warmth and move beautifully. They can be as thick, or airy, or, even, translucent as I need them for the design of uniquely yours piece.

Color palette and pattern design

Adding hand dyed fibers is, certainly, a lot of fun. But more importantly, the color palette that I use for my creations stays truly without the limits. I do not depend on fabrics and patterns that are out there in the market. They are merely, but a today’s trend that will be a thing of the past tomorrow. In my hand crafted fabric designs I can draw an inspiration from a painting, a magazine, using the most recent color trends, and match it to any color that you might find in your closet.

Handcrafted Fabric – The Environmental Approach

Using the centuries’ old technology helps me to take it a bit further, and create pieces that belong to the realm of eco-fashion. From the dyeing process, where I use only dyes found in nature, to selection of exclusively natural fibers my process stays as environmentally friendly, as possible. There is no artificial byproducts, non-bio-degradable components that harm our planet in my designs.

The beauty of handcrafted felting process is that it allows to make as much and as little fabric as I need for a piece or for a collection keeping the process waste free.
